Candlelight ceremony held to raise awareness of kids waiting - KTIV ...

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Monday night, more than 700 Iowa children are waiting for an adoptive family.

It's National Adoption Month, and a candlelight ceremony was held to honor, and raise awareness, for Iowa kids waiting to be adopted from foster care.

The light from the candles represent the bright future those kids could have if given the chance.

The event was hosted by Iowa KidsNet. The group raises awareness on the ongoing needs of children in foster care and the importance of permanent connections through families.

"It gives children a forever home. It gives us, as a family, a chance to share our family with another child, gives them a chance at a future," said Rachelle Polkinghorn, Post Adoption Support Specialist.

The adoption process takes about a year. Click on Iowa KidsNet for more adoption information.
